What do you think is missing in Kennett Square?

Are you a high school or middle school student between the ages of 12 and 18? Your idea to make Kennett Square a better place could win you, your class, or team $1,000 to bring your project from dream to reality.

Growing up in Kennett Square, have you ever thought, “I wish Kennett had . . .”? What one small project do you think would make Kennett Square a better place—more fun, more creative, safer, or more beautiful?

At Historic Kennett Square (HKS) we know that students have great ideas and bring a fresh perspective to the places where they enjoy hanging out. So we want to hear your idea to make Kennett Square an even better place for the people who live, go to school, and work here!

  • Whos eligible to participate? Anyone between the ages of 12 and 18.

  • Whats Kennett Placemakers? A competition to design a small placemaking project that can be completed for $1,000 or less and finished and in place somewhere in the Borough of Kennett Square by June 1, 2022.

  • When are applications due? By Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at 5pm. Finalists will be chosen to present their ideas to a live audience at the How We Build Matters KSQ Speaker Series event on January 18th, 2022. (https://historickennettsquare.com/kpc-youth-rules/)

  • Why? To make Kennett Square a better place for people of all ages!

The audience in attendance at the KSQ Speaker Series event on January 18th will vote to choose the winning project from among the three youth finalists (ages 12–18), and the individual youth, class, or team with the most votes will receive funding for their project up to $1,000 and assistance from HKS to bring their project to life.

Here are some examples from Kennett and from around the country (but we think your ideas are going to be even better!).
