On Sept 10, 1777 the British Army and Hessian Troops occupied Kennett Square using it as the staging ground to launch their attack on George Washington and the Continental Army the next day in what would become the largest single day battle of the War for Independence, the Battle of Brandywine.
New research uncovered the places where the troops marched and camped as 15,000 British Soldiers completely took over Kennett Square and occupied it until the morning taking over homes, farms and taverns like the Kennett Brewing Company! Come listen, and watch animated maps, as historian and GIS cartographer Sean Moir presents the results of the study. Learn the story of the day the British and Hessians occupied Kennett Square!
