Snow White and the Magic Mirror – British Panto

Friday, January 17 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

KATS, Inc. invites you to our annual British Panto – the second longest-running British Pantomime in America! Toe-tappin’, knee slapping good-old fashioned fun in January. Boo the villain, cheer the heroine…and help sing The Silly Song! Lots of audience participation in this thinly-veiled children’s fairytale, loaded with local commentary, British humor and some outrageous costumes for good measure – jolly fun for the whole family!

Snow White and the Magic Mirror
Once upon a time, (in about 1790…) in a country far far away, there were two Kingdoms. The White Kingdom was ruled by the King and Queen of the White, but the Queen died and the King, of course, remarried, and then died himself leaving his daughter Bianca to be looked after by his new wife, Bianca’s stepmother, Queen Bergamot. Queen Bergamot is now the Queen Regent, reigning in Bianca’s place until Bianca’s 21st birthday, when Bianca herself will take over as Queen. Bergamot is Not Keen on this transition going ahead so she spends a lot of energy thinking of ways to prevent Bianca from ascending the throne. She is aided and abetted by her closest henchperson, Mendicant, who has a tendency to make sarcastic comments.

The Gold Kingdom is a much smaller Kingdom, and was ruled by King Turmeric, who quite fancies getting his hands on some or all of the White Kingdom himself but isn’t really a bad chap, just a bit power hungry. His son Prince Valiant is a bookish and rational young man who likes science. But this being a magic tale, magic is woven throughout. The Wizard creates a magic mirror, that is bound to always tell the truth. There are magic apples in the orchard, there are bears in the woods who bear a remarkable resemblance to the Three Bears, and who of course can talk and sing, and there are Dwarves. There are Minions who create the mirror, there are baby dragons, and there are courtiers, and there’s a Greek chorus whose members wear really rather nice costumes from 1790 and thereabouts.
