About Kader
The youngest of 9 children, Kader Boly grew up in the Northern part of Burkina Faso, Sabce Africa as part of the Fulani tribe. For generations, his family has worked as herders, moving sheep, goats and chickens. For Kader, this nomadic lifestyle created a deep connection and reverence for animals he saw every day, the changing seasons, and the beauty of the world around him. Despite his reverence for the everyday beauty of his life at a young age Kader began to have questions – “I wanted it to live on, so I began drawing my feelings and nature around me at twelve-years-old.” Sometimes he used dirt directly from the hills he was depicting. When dirt proved to be a poor medium for his early art, he stumbled upon gum arabic to bind it. He eventually began experimenting with different natural pigments, mixing them with water and gum Arabic, and his technique rapidly began to take shape. “Nature is open, it’s real. We can see it and breathe it. The sky is unlimited.” Today, Kader lives an artful life with his mind in the clouds and his feet deeply rooted in the wisdom and experiences he had as a child in nature. He recently moved back to Africa where he lives most of the year, and continues to be awed and inspired by its natural beauty. “Little did I know the years growing up in the quiet plains of West Africa would make such an impression on my life– or that sharing it with the rest of the world, would become my destiny.”
