Working with businesses & community leaders, Historic Kennett Square oversees the work of six active committees. Each committee consists of a group of volunteers who attend monthly committee meetings, follow up on assigned tasks, assist with the implementation of action plans & participate in events. Economic Development

 Chair: Tom Sausen

Create business friendly environment, which encourages economic development & business retention
Know and understand the market place and how to best use it
Advocate and support the economic development plan
Work with borough to define zoning in downtown district

Advocate for and support the Economic Development Study
Work with Kennett Borough and Kennett Township to hire a full time
Economic Development Director
Implement a system to track reinvestment statistics on an annual basis
Attract and retain new businesses
Create and maintain an inventory of commercial properties for sale/ lease on the website

Coordinate and share information on downtown design issues
Establish an effective parking management system
Develop and Enhance Façade Grant Program
Establish Financial Incentive Programs for Design Improvements
Improve Design/Appearance of Business District Public Areas and Overall Downtown

Implement the Façade Improvement Program
Identify additional sources of funding for façade improvements
Develop a new holiday lighting plan
Oversee the installation of a piece of public art
Advocate for street improvements in the Birch Street corridor
Work with Bike Kennett and Kennett Township on a bike friendly program –
bike rack; parking areas
Identify someone from Longwood Gardens to sit on the committee

Create a Development Plan that addresses Corporate Giving; Annual Giving; Foundation/Grants; and government support
Maintain and enhance the sponsorship program
Develop and distribute the Annual Report


Marketing & Promotion

Coordinate a robust marketing program
Execute community and fundraising events
Outreach to merchant community
Oversee Kennett Square Farmers Market

Strategic Plan:
Work with merchants on attracting shoppers and visitors to support businesses
Encourage bus tours to downtown area
Execute and monitor events including Farmers Market, Art Strolls, Third Thursdays, Parades and Carriage rides
Manage a robust marketing program
Coordinate four merchant education seminars


Fundraising Events

Oversee & execute successful fundraising events that help support the town while raising money for the non-profit
