Kennett Square is offering people more to do in the evening than just dinner and drinks. Starting tomorrow, a monthly movie night will feature independent films at the 110 building, behind Newton's restaurant on State Street.
"We're hopeful that it's an event that will bring people into town and keep them there so they just don't come in, eat and leave," said Jennifer Abracht, president of Historic Kennett Square, the town's tourism and promotion agency.
Tomorrow's film is A Very Long Engagement, the story of a woman's search for her fiance who was one of five French soldiers condemned to death by their own side in World War I. Convicted of wounding themselves to escape combat, the men are sent to no-man's land to take their chances between the French and German sides, unarmed and with their hands tied behind their backs.
The French picture received a Golden Globe nomination in 2004 for best foreign film.
The next in the series, set for Feb. 15, will be the Italian film Il Postino, the story about the friendship between exiled Chilean poet Pablo Neruda and his Italian mailman.
