Passport Parking – Mobile Parking App

Borough of Kennett Square to Debut Parking Appparking-meter-with-ppprkPassport launches to add convenience for those parking in town, see press release below from Passport Parking:

Kennett Square, PA – The Borough of Kennett Square will debut a new way to pay for parking. The Borough is partnering with industry leader Passport to add the ability for parkers to pay for metered parking spaces from their phones.

Drivers can download the PassportParking app and securely pay for metered parking using a debit/credit card. The parking app, which is widely available throughout the Northeastern United States, allows customers to monitor their session, extend parking remotely (up to the maximum allotted time), and view all parking history.

The new parking app brings mobile technology to customers as a more convenient option to “feed the meter”. Parkers can manage everything from their phones while also helping avoid parking citations.

“The Borough of Kennett Square is excited to add this innovative technology. The PassportParking app makes it easier for parkers to pay while giving them new features like receiving notifications and being able to extend their parking session. Partnering with Passport was a win-win for the Borough and its drivers,” said Joe Scalise, Borough Manager for Kennett Square.

As a part of the mobile payment for parking program, the app will be available at on and off-street parking locations in the Kennett Square area where signage is displayed. PassportParking signage and decals located on the meters indicate how users can download and get started with the app.

Passport is the leading mobile payment provider for parking and transportation in North America, powering the parking apps for large cities like Boston, Chicago, Toronto, Salt Lake City, and Detroit.

The PassportParking app is free to download from the iPhone App Store and Android Google Play. Users can also manage their parking online at ppprk.com.

Once users download the app they will be asked to create an account which includes a verification process through phone or email and the creation of a pin number. To begin the parking payment process a user will be prompted to enter a zone number.  The user then enters a debit/credit card and the parked vehicle’s license number.  The meters in Kennett Square now have a passport parking sticker with corresponding zone number.

Farmers Market Profile – Rambling Roots Farm

Rambling Roots profileRambling Roots Farm Profile

Each week we’ll be profiling one of the vendors at the Kennett Square Farmers Market. This week, we talked to Shanna Smeltz from Rambling Roots Farm, a sustainable, husband & wife operated farm in Chester County.

Interview by Dana Holloway.

What does your farm grow?

We grow vegetables and raise pastured chickens, pork, and lamb.

How did you start farming?

My husband Phil began farming about seven years ago with a friend in Kennett Square. Four years ago, we broke off and stared our own farm, and that’s how it all began.

What’s your favorite part about working at the KSQ Farmers’ Market?

Interacting with our loyal customers who get really excited about certain vegetables.

What’s the hardest part about working at the KSQ Farmers’ Market?

Having to leave the farm when we’re busy to get to the market. It’s hard being totally off the farm when there’s work to do.

Do you have any tips for people coming to the KSQ Farmers’ Market?

Be open to trying new things and feel comfortable asking questions about how to make and store the produce. We’ll have ideas for you! And make sure to consider the hard work that goes into what you’re buying.

Why do you think Farmers’ Markets are important?

People get to connect to what they put in their bodies and have a greater appreciation for what goes into farming. The food doesn’t travel far at all to get to the table and has higher nutrients. There’s also less waste and less fossil fuels used.

What time did you get up this morning?

5:45 am.

What’s the first thing you thought of this morning?

“I’m really tired, can I sleep for more 10 minutes?”

What did you eat for breakfast this morning?

What’s your bestselling item at your stand? What is your favorite item?

Today, probably the tomatoes. I like our heirloom tomatoes or carrots the best.

What’s your favorite item from another vendor’s stand at the KSQ Farmers’ Market?

Probably Rex Farms’ peaches.

Peaches or nectarines?

Bare feet or shoes?

What are some “must-have” items to bring to the market?

My money pouch and water.

What do you snack on while at the market?

Our sugar snap peas raw, or any of our other veggies.

What is a hidden talent of yours?

I’m good at finding stuff.

What are you going to eat for dinner tonight?

Homemade pizza.

What’s your favorite place in the whole world?

Floating down the Brandywine.

 Rambling Roots Collage 2

Thanks for talking with us, Shanna! Stop by Rambling Roots Farm’s stand to pick up some fresh veggies or eggs. They’re at the market every Friday from 2-6.
